I like Rachel Zegler. Rachel Zegler is pretty. I thought Rachel Zegler was very good in the movie Y2K. Rachel Zegler was funny in the movie Y2K. I have a crush on Rachel Zegler. You should watch Y2K for Rachel Zegler.

Ok now that I have my horny little thoughts out of the way, I’d like to introduce you guys to the movie that The Monkey was trying to be. I’m going to keep this review short because the movie is pretty self-explanatory. Using the paranoia and chronological moment of December 31st, 1999 as a catalyst, Y2K is about a nerd boy trying to bang his pretty, popular crush. He contends with her hot, jock love interests, death robots, and his own insecurities as he tries to survive, find himself, and get the girl. Parental Warning: There are underaged pot smokers in this film. A lot of them.
The movie Y2K is like if you combined Superbad, took out the dick jokes, smashed it with Terminator, and sprinkled in a bit of The Goonies. I fucking loved Y2K. Same goes for Rachel Zegler, but I’m sure that doesn’t really bear repeating.
I’ll admit that the theme was a bit lost on me, and there was a little bit of meandering with the idea of ‘popularity’ and how it changes people, and I wasn’t sure how well they connected it back to the protagonist’s arc. I also don’t think Rachel Zegler got too much character growth other than realizing that the guy of her dreams was in front of her the whole time. Which isn’t true, because I’ve been hiding behind a middling movie review blog, Rachel Zegler. Now that I think about it, I think that the comments section is the only way you guys can interact with me. I don’t think I have my contact listed anywhere. Maybe I should see if AI can track me down.
The Rest of the Cast
Julian Dennison was featured prominently throughout the marketing, and I think it was a real shame he wasn’t in more of the movie. As dopey and believable Jaeden Martell was, I think that he really needed more of an emotional foil in the second act. Rachel Zegler was perfect, as always.
I also want to point out the really fantastic first act as a great hook. Even though you’re supposed to expect what the movie is gonna be about the movie took a really earnest amount of time setting up Julian and Jaeden’s friendship, and their characters. Up until the stroke of midnight, I really enjoyed the character work. There’s also a really great shot as they enter the party that delineated different social cliches that our protagonist seems to be struggling to fit into. I think that symbolism should have carried into the group of survivors they formed in the second act, his outfit, and his character a bit more. I think it was there in an early draft of the movie, but must have been lost when they made the script into a movie.
I recommend watching Y2K with a friend or two, perhaps a little bit of the zaza. The maui-wowie. A lil wacky baccy. Haha isn’t weed humor funny guise XD. I rate the movie Y2K
